Community togetherness can overcome COVID-19

Image
Chairman of Chigwell Row Residents Association, Wilson Chowdhry, met with Reverend Paula Preston, of All Saints Church, Romford Road this morning to promote a community prayer and message wall. The outer wall of the church has already been decorated with a number of prayers for our community, written by the congregation of the church.  Reverend Paula will today be adding further cloths pinned by a ribbon and is inviting people from the community to add their messages and prayer to the church wall for the duration of the current COVID-19 pandemic. It is hoped that the wall will become a place for the community to share messages of solidarity, share condolences if required, to update people on local matters and much more.  We hope it will continue to sustain a sense of community once action against COVID-19 reaches it peak. Please feel free to bring along sharpies and add messages to the empty cloths hanging from the community ribbon along the outer wall of All saints....

Being a Good Neighbour

Image
All Saints Church, Chigwell was the venue for our recent residents association meeting. Rev Pauline Preston,  Acting Team Rector,  The Parish of Chigwell and Chigwell Row and The Vale of Roding Benefice has given shared some helpful advice on being a Good Neighbour to others. These guidelines are being shared by the churches in Chigwell and Chigwell Row, we hope you find them helpful. 1) Check on your vulnerable friends and neighbours: Would you know if they were self-isolating? Do you have each other's phone numbers? A good time (and good excuse) to swap contact details with your neighbours.  2) Don't stockpile : People with medical conditions who need extra toilet roll, painkillers, face masks or hand gel all the time will suffer if they can't get them or the prices become ridiculous. 3) Share : If you have resources, consider who you could share them with.  4) Give: Some people who are self-employed or have no sickness cover in their con...

Abandoned vehicle inconveniently parked on Daylop Drive turns out to be stolen

Image
Local residents reported an abandoned vehicle obstructing the pedestrian footway on Daylop Drive, via the community Whats App group on Tuesday 10th March.  On hearing the concern our Chairman Wilson Chowdhry contacted local police to report the potentially abandoned vehicle.   On Thursday 12th March a 'Coffee with Cops event was held at All Saints Church and a local resident also reported the vehicle to local police and later that day police could bee seen parked near the vehicle.   Mr Chowdhry approached police the same day and was told that they were removing the vehicle and later one of our board members Dave Porter  was told by a police officer that the vehicle was stole from Ongar in Essex. The vehicle was later removed and taken on a pick-up truck.  Our community really needs to pat itself on the back for the communal effort that has helped return a stolen car to its owner, while restoring access to a safe pedestrian footway....

Van stuck in ditch, tree blocking one lane, overgrown vegetation restricting width of Pudding Lane even then council wide vehicle traverses road causing discomfort to locals.

Image
A frightened driver scrapes their paintwork on side bushes to avoid crash After watching with horror local cars faced with the choice of crashing into a council Highway maintenance vehicle, or scraping their paintwork on the jagged, stiff and extremely long overgrowth along the banks of pudding lane - our Chairman Wilson Chowdhry reported the dangerous length of bushes, vines and trees to Essex Council.  Mr Chowdhry has also suggested that wide vehicle should not be allowed on the road, due to the cramped space, winding nature of the road and dangerous banks of mud that the same day had led to a small van tilting over and getting stuck. Van could be seen stuck in side ditch for hours despite this danger being reported to council by Wilson Chowdhry 5 weeks ago. What made matters worse was that for several days tree debris left on the road after the recent high winds had not been removed by the local council, creating a further danger on the road and adding to the conge...

Police patrols increase in our ward from tonight after rise in local burglaries - two men arrested last week!

Image
URGENT BURGLARY WARNING!!!! After a series of burglaries in Chigwell local police have started extra patrols in our area to stem the crime, starting from today. On Saturday Thursday night a burglary on Canterbury Close had an identical modus operandi as a burglary that was undertaken on the home of one of our board members in November, who livecd onoy 10 feet away from the current targetd property.  In each of the burglaries access to the home was obtained by forcing entry via the side entrance gate to the home and then smashing a rear patio door to unlock and enter the premises. Another feature of the crime was the use of a specific make of car which on both occasions was a grey Audi with blacked out windows. During the latest attempted break-in one resident was at home.  However, thankfully we have been advised  thast they were not injured. Local police have shared good news with us that two men using a dark Audi for these crimes were arrested earlier la...
