After a crash in the early hours of Sunday morning at 3.30 that left a lamp post inclining at almost 45 degrees (click here), road-users face significant traffic disruption along Romford Road.
The works were quite immediate in fairness and we believe some of this was due to the efforts of CRRA ensuring the Highways team knew how dangerous the tilting lamp post was. Hannah Chowdhry had reported the lighting to the Highways Team on Sunday afternoon adding to any report made by local police. Whilst also ensuring police were made aware of the camera warning sign was on the pavement invalidating any speed camera infractions.
Even when an abandoned caravan (click here) had been burnt out in the middle of the road on the same Road during the Halloween fest (click here) it took several days before remedial works began (see video here).
CRRA have developed improved channels of communication with Essex and Epping Forest Council and are able to highlight safety concerns more effectively.
When we initially posted about this incident in our whatsapp group, one resident was concerned about street-lighting not being operational on the road. However CRRA have confirmed that most of the lights were working on the streets and that one was faulty and worked intermittently. Mr Chowdhry has met the driver of the vehicle last night and he is a very young man. He believes the darkness around the faulty lamppost and rain was a factor in the crash.
The young driver was near the incident site last night and was to meet the RAC there, to have the vehicle removed. Mr Chowdhry advised him to tell his insurance company that the car had been removed and to contact the police and Essex Council of the whereabouts of the vehicle for any evidence purposes. All evidence this clean-up operation was quicker than normal.
Please be aware that while repairs are being undertaken, night-time travel will be extremely dark on Romford Road from Lambourne Road to Woolhampton Way and a little beyond. This is due to a circuit having been disconnected to maintain safety while works progress. It may take a few days before things get back to normal so do please drive with caution especially during night hours.
During operational hours for the remedial works team, it may be more convenient for road-users from Woolhampton Way and associated roads to exit via Ingleby Gardens.
