Halloween Fest less of a burden than previous events but more needs to be done!

Wilson Chowdhry travelled along Romford Road the morning after the Halloween Fest event at Hainault Park to gauge how bad the residual effects were.

A petition that calls for a unified approach by Redbridge and Epping District Council in tackling the aftermath of events at Hainault Park has been created .Please sign our petition (here).

Although the litter and damage were much less than previous summer events his opinion is that this is because of the heavy downpour and cold weather that led to many of the event buses being virtually empty.

We believe that the numbers of visitors were reduced and on-the-day ticket sales were also adversely affected.

We list below the time of issues that did crop up during the inspection:

One of two corex signboards littered on the streets

Some form of electrical box now with loose wires had been knocked from its fixings.  This is yet to be repaired.

A relatively new tree sapling was uprooted from the Redbridge side of the central reservation on Romford Road, near Fowler Way and is still to be re-planted

Hippy-crack use was 'high level' and used nitrous-oxide bottles could be found strewn across Essex and Redbridge roads in the vicinity of Hainault Country Park - this one is from Woolhampton Way.

A preventable fire after caravan used by festival goers was dumped and burned.

Please watch video below of burning caravan

A caravan that I reported as vandalised to Redbridge Police and Council on 26th October 2019 was set alight the next day.  The litter associated with the caravan included mattresses is still littered around Romford Road.

The blaze caused a health and safety concern, damage to the road and a long road block leading to lengthy traffic jams.

You can read more about the vandalism of the caravan and associated litter (here)

We have emailed members of Redbridge and Epping Council to ensure that better community consultation occurs for future events - both pre and post-event.

Mr Wilson Chowdhry a local resident of Chigwell Row and former resident of Redbridge has created a petition.  Residents concerned about the lack of provision by event organisers for the affect of their operations once visitors have exited a venue can sign the petition (here).  The petition also calls for a unified approach by Redbridge and Epping District Council in tackling the aftermath of events at Hainault Park.
