Multiple Victims Stabbed by Sword-Wielding Attacker Following Van Crash into Hainault Residence

Police have now secured a cordon around crime scene.

In a swift response to a critical incident, emergency services sprang into action at Hainault Tube station. Here's a rundown of the key moments:

At 9:01 am, reports emerged of a stabbing incident in Hainault, Redbridge, resulting in injuries to four individuals. The unsettling event unfolded at Hainault Tube station in Redbridge, Essex. Social media footage depicted a man clad in a yellow hooded jacket brandishing a sizable blade, drawing the attention of law enforcement.

Eyewitnesses recounted a chaotic scene, with one individual describing a man wielding what appeared to be a samurai sword, allegedly initiating the attack after crashing his van into a nearby residence.

The coordinated efforts of emergency responders underscored their dedication to swiftly addressing the crises and maintaining public safety,

The police cordon was temporarily opened to allow a fire engine to return to base.

Wilson Chowdhry, author of Chigwell Row Community, expressed:

"The atmosphere in the area is rife with panic, and there remains uncertainty regarding the apprehension of the assailant.

"Hundreds of concerned individuals have congregated as police diligently investigate the incident.

"At this nascent stage, the specifics of the situation remain unclear. Therefore, my earnest recommendation is for individuals to steer clear of the vicinity and afford the emergency services the space to execute their duties effectively."

Disturbing videos have surfaced depicting the aftermath of a fatal attack on a 14-year-old boy by an individual wearing a yellow hoodie. In one clip, a woman's voice is heard exclaiming, 'He just killed that boy, he just killed him right outside my hiuse.' Additional footage captures the assailant prowling around residences, presumably searching for more victims. Clearly visible in the recordings is the weapon wielded by the attacker—a long, curved dagger or short, curved sword. Authorities have confirmed that in the wake of this incident, two police officers and three members of the public, including one child, were assaulted.

Juliet Chowdhry, wife of Wilson Chowdhry, provided her eyewitness account of the earlier car

crash incident:

"At 6:45 am, I was on my way back from dropping off my daughter at the coach pickup point on Forest Road, just beyond King Solomon High School, as she prepared to travel to Southend High School. I went onto the roundabout and exited onto Fencepiece Road.

"Behind me, a driver in a large grey van, bearing the number 70 indicative of a 2020 vehicle, exhibited erratic behavior. He was speeding excessively, overtaking me at a speed of approximately 50 to 60 miles per hour with a huge swerve.

"At the junction of Fencepiece Road and New North Road, as I approached a red light, I dutifully came to a stop. However, to my shock, the van driver beside me careened through the intersection, driving on the wrong side of the road. His reckless maneuver nearly resulted in a collision with cars turning left onto Fencepiece Road from the opposite direction. By the time the light transitioned to green, he had surged far ahead, only for me to witness the van colliding with a nearby residence.

"Concerned for any potential casualties, I cautiously approached the scene, but upon inspection, found the van's driver door ajar with no occupants in sight.

"Given my responsibilities to assist my middle daughter in preparing for school,  I fortunately continued on my journey..

" I believe I would have been killed if I stopped and narrowly averted the danger.  I'm also thankful to God that I did not crash with his car earlier due to his erratic driving, I doubt I would still be alive if we had."

"The street was relatively deserted, with minimal vehicular traffic at the time. However, amidst this tranquility, I did observe an Eastern European man dressed in black jogging attire—a black and white top paired with black jogging bottoms and white Nike trainers. He appeared to be in his late forties, holding a phone while running.

"At that moment, I had not spotted the individual described as wielding a sword while wearing a yellow hoodie. Only later, did I begin to connect the dots, realizing the potential link between these two incidents."

Juliet voiced apprehension on the unsettling proximity of the van incident and knife attack near a train station and a key departure point for children embarking on their morning journeys. In response, she plans to engage in a dialogue with local police to relay her eyewitness account and advocate for enhanced safety measures. Specifically, she intends to urge for increased police patrols during the early morning hours to bolster the security of the young children navigating their daily routes.

Wilson Chowdhry arrived at the police cordon around 10 a.m., where local authorities reassured him that the incident was not terror-related and that a suspect was already in custody. Additionally, four individuals injured in the attack have been transported to King George Hospital for treatment. Sadly, among the casualties, a 14-year-old boy lost his life.

Update 1st May:

The school teenager has now been named in various reports as Daniel Anjorin and it has been confirmed that he attended Bancrofts School in Woodford and was leaving for his journey to school when the attack occurred.

Redbridge Peace Monument

Mr. Chowdhry, is the visionary behind the Redbridge Peace Monument in Ilford, which was installed in 2011 after a five-year campaign. Witnessing the murder of teenager Kashif Mahmood in 2003, alongside his wife, spurred him to create a symbol of remembrance and peace, with the support of mothers of victims.

One of the plaques commemorating a life lost to violent crime.

Now, Mr. Chowdhry intends to reach out to the grieving family of the recent victim at an appropriate time. His purpose is to extend an offer to commemorate their son's memory by adding his name on a brass plaque. This gesture not only honors the life lost but also serves as a poignant reminder to the community of the profound consequences of violent crime. Through this act of remembrance, Mr. Chowdhry hopes to provide solace and contribute to the healing process of those affected by tragedy.
Wilson Chowdhry, from the Chigwell Row Community blog, said:

"It was deeply troubling to discover that the older brother of the 14-year-old victim attends Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, where my daughter also studies - this has all been too close to home.

"The senseless act of violence that reverberated through Hainault and beyond has tragically claimed the life of a precious young boy, causing profound anguish for everyone in the vicinity and sending shockwaves across the globe.

"The videos and images circulating of the armed assailant serve as a stark reminder of how easily a life can be taken with a weapon, and the terror such weapons instill.

"Urgent action is imperative to address knife crime, including implementing stricter laws against those carrying weapons for violent purposes and using them in acts of murder.

"My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the grieving family, and I hope to have the opportunity to personally extend my condolences and offer to commemorate their son's memory with a plaque on the Redbridge Peace Monument.

"While nothing can undo the loss we've endured, let the brutality of this reprehensible crime serve as a catalyst for hope and meaningful change."
