Nuisance parkers force pedestrians through mud and cause damage to grassy banks
Chigwell Row Residents Association (CRRA) have received several complaints about the parking along Lambourne Road by the Recreation Ground.
Due to cars that have been parked along the pavement area many pedestrians have been forced to walk through deep and slippery mud, causing a safety concern as well as unnecessary mess in residential homes.
For local wheelchair users and mothers with prams, crossing onto the grassy verge becomes a dangerous and tricky venture.
Moreover, cars parking fully off road (which must be unlawful) are damaging the surface of the grassy banks, which will cost the council hundreds of pounds in remedial works.
To prevent the nuisance parking and to preserve a safe designated walking area for pedestrians, CRRA have lodged a complaint with both Epping Forest District Council's (EFDC) Highways Team and Chigwell Parish Council.
We have called for the installation of bollards to prevent vehicles driving onto the pedestrian walkways to prevent obstruction.
Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of CRRA, said:
"We urge local drivers to keep our public footpaths around the recreation ground free of obstruction to make these walkways safe, especially for the many socially-distancing families using the green.
"Local weather will soon enter a period of extreme cold with potential ice and snow from tonight, please consider this and potential obstructions to pedestrians when parking over the next few days."
