Red sky in the morning shepherds warning - Chigwell beware of giant snowwomen!

As we were out very early the beautiful sunrise became more visible as we drove away from Chigwell.  This image taken from Romford Road (Redbridge section)

Residents of Chigwell woke up to one of the most beautiful mornings of late.  Our sky was a myriad of
red, yellow and orange colours and many locals placed some stunning images on social media.

My father and I were up early and while driving to visiting some of his clients venues we were able to stop on the A127 and take a picture from one of the overpasses.  The location we chose  had one of the clearest views of the gorgeous sky.

From the A127 you could see a simply magnificent deep red sky

We hope local people were inspired by the gorgeous sky yesterday and were disappointed that images we had of Chigwell Row in the morning only had a thin line (as we set off very early). Fortunately we have some beautiful examples of the delectable sky above Chigwell that others have shared:

Later that same morning the true omen of the red sky came to fruition as Chigwell, in Epping experienced relatively high snowfall when compared to the neighbouring boroughs of Redbridge and Havering.  This may well be due to the fact that we are on a hill and hence more susceptible to snow and rain as a consequence.  Often I have been able to attend a park in Ilford where there is no ran while there is heavy down pour in Chigwell.

I am not sure how much orographic uplift (clouds rising over land mass into cooler climate) - or if this is a factor at all. However we do live on a hill and needless to say the higher the altitude of the  ground the cooler the temperature.

Moreover, while volunteering at All saints Church to set up the Christmas star a man named Alan explained that the church bell tower is the highest accessible point in Essex, much due to the fact it sits on the second highest land point in Essex.

One way or the other, we experienced a brief sprinkling of snow and this was exciting for my sisters and I. We all decided to clear our drive and the road on our small close and use the collected snow to make a snow sculpture. With the help of my father we built a Snowwoman who was over 6ft challenging the culture of gender discrimination.  We even gave her a name Snoweena created on the first day that we had seen snow in Chigwell, since our move here.  I share her image here for you:

Here is a video I made with my sisters:

I am hoping that more of you have images or videos of either the snow or the sunrise so we can add it to this blog to be shared.  Please do get in contact.
