A thief has stolen a hair salon receptionists phone while engaging her in a very complicated distraction theft.
In a very disturbing video, the suspect begins a conversation with the receptionist at Naked Lounge, Manor Road, then uses a paper he takes from his pocket to distract her, while he whisks her phone away from right in front of her.
The speed of his movement leaves viewers astounded at how quickly he picks up the phone and in a blink of an eye apparently sticks it to his leg.
This all happened in a moment of seconds and the man continues his distraction, while talking to the receptionist as her leaves the shop with her valuable phone on his person.
The man can later be seen skipping along the street outside the shop, pleased with the outcome of his deception.
The shocked receptionist only realises she has been duped after he has gone.
Some of the messages on Facebook suggest the young man has tucked the phone in his sock, but in video footage it is visible that he begins to gingerly move his right leg with the attached phone. It seems obvious he is avoiding the phone being noticed while he carries it away on his leg, by walking more carefully and maintaining eye contact and conversation with the receptionist.
When the receptionist arises from her seat and meets him near the doorway. He rapidly kicks up his leg, picks the phone of and places it in his hoodie pocket, covering his sleight of hand with the same paper he used before.
Before the theft the man is seen using some mysterious glue or sticky spray, it seems probable this is the means by which he secures the phone to his leg, without the receptionist noticing.
She does not recognise the difference in his movement as he confidently entered the building with full movement of his leg but them seems to be more gentle with his right leg on leaving.
Mr Chowdhry, Chairman of the Chigwell Row Residents Association, said:
"I lost my phone to thieves who stole my vehicle in Ilford only a few months ago.
"I was able to trace the phone using a Line 360 app and it was retrieved by police officers from a man who found it on the streets after it had been thrown out of my stolen car."
"I would recommend this app or any other tracing app, to all phone owners."
"It is worrying how easy it was for this felon to have entered into the private space behind the reception desk without a request to stop.
"Customer queries could easily be resolved over the counter and staff in these positions, especially when alone should insist on maintenance of a private zone."
On facebook another victim has also spoken out, believing the same felon has duped others with his deception.
One facebook comment read:
"I had exactly the same thing happen to me in my tattoo
studio in Thatcham Berkshire 2 weeks ago and I’m 99% sure it’s the same person"
