Pudding Lane persistence pays off!

Some Chevrons are back upright!

During a lengthy call to Essex Highways Team on Thursday, Wilson Chowdhry Chairman of the Chigwell Row Residents Association re-reported several concerns along Pudding Lane and the awful condition of the pavement on Daylop Drive.

During the conversation the Highways Officer whose name we have retained, looked through the numerous complaints received for Pudding Lane and said that  631 had been registered for the road - a disappointingly high yield.  Moreover, when he saw the videos and images that Mr Chowdhry had shared of the deep crevices along the sides of the road, on what should be grass verges, he was shocked that nothing had been done before.  Mr Chowdhry asked for the groundworks to make these safer to be completed before December when icy roads make Pudding Lane a death trap.

The officer noted that that back in July Essex police had also reported it and was extremely concerned that the repair works had still not been completed.

Clearly as a community we do have to stay on top of these things or Essex Highways will let things slip

Mr Chowdhry also complained that despite a recent cut of the hedges, the vegetation in some areas is already encroaching over the road.  the overhang may only be two or three inches, but on a tight road, known for accidents it makes no sense that the hedges are not cut back much deeper. Mr Chowdhry, has called for a review of the hedge-length and sought that hedges are cut back at least one foot and that all dangerous cuttings are removed.  Uncollected loose cut branches often protrude into the road creating a serious hazard as drivers swerve into the centre of the road to avoid scratching their cars.

A reminder was also given to the highways team that the bollards on the pinc-points are still to be replaced.  Mr Chowdhry explained that the very fact that the bollards and chevrons had been hit by drivers, illustrates the need for them to be replaced, for the safety of all road-users.

The officer informed me that an inspector would be visiting on Friday and today the refixable chevrons have been put upright, the ones needing replacement are yet to be refixed.  We believe the rest of the outstanding work will be completed soonish...
