Local volunteers and donors bring the glitter back to Chigwell Christmases

A small group of volunteers helped bring smiles back on the faces of the COVID-19 stressed community of Chigwell Row.

During the third week of the UK's second lockdown four men, former councillor Roger Farthing, Devang Patel, Neil Patel and Wilson Chowdhry fitted festive lights to shops along Lambourne Road. Please thank the first three volunteers in this list if you see them, they gave up a lot of personal time to make this happen for us all.

Armed with a ladder, wire clippers, some tie-wraps and four sets of blue and white icicle-lights the team of four made sure local people got a taste of the festive sparkle our community deserves (one that most other local villages and towns already enjoy).

The idea for the lights originated from Roger Farthing who for many years had wanted to see Christmas lights locally, but seemed too often to be thwarted by the decisions of others. This year however through the help of local donors and Hannah Chowdhry's Crowd fund to a wider audience, this stage of Chigwell Row's Christmas lights has been successfully completed.

But things do not end here.

Sunday 29th November:

Vicar Paula Preston will say a prayer for our community at the lights on Lambourne Road, as we enter the official first day of Advent.  The event will happen at 4pm and local residents are welcome to come to their doorsteps to join us as a PA will broadcast the prayer to homes in the area.

Sunday 6th December:

All Saints Church will  switch on their Christmas lights that will include a community star, a nativity and various characters from the Biblical account of Christmas.  People are welcome to join us in family bubbles, for an official launch at 4pm.  More details will follow once we are all clearer on Government guidelines.

Just remember...

COVID CAN'T KILL CHRISTMAS

  1. I think this is a wonderful idea, especially this year as we could all do with some festive cheer. Thanks to those involved in making this happen - I hope this is the start on seeing this each year. I’m looking forward to seeing Chigwell Row all lit up!
