Bad news from Essex Police - catalytic converter theft is a major issue and may take time to resolve!

Images of thieves stealing a catalytic converter in October.

Chigwell Row Residents Association requested increasing patrols in our ward to tackle catalytic converter theft, and for the crime to be set as a priority here.  Unfortunately, the response has left us with a sense of dread:

"...we have recently run an operation within the Epping Forest District in relation to catalytic converter thefts.

"Unfortunately this crime is happening across the whole of the Epping Forest District and is not specific to any one location so a particular area cannot be directly targeted for policing activity.

"It is very much a case of where these criminals identify their target vehicles to be located.

"We are continually developing intelligence on this crime along with working cross border with the Metropolitan Police Service who are suffering this crime to a greater degree than we are.

"Should a specific area be identified as suffering any crime more than any other particular area then this is always under review and appropriate targeted patrol activity is tasked to target that area and that particular crime."
