Lack of electrical points prevents installation of temporary cameras on Millers Lane

Huge Fly-tip seen by local residents last night on Hoe Lane near Millers Lane.

Despite a pretty solid case for the installation of a temporary CCTV camera on Millers Lane, I have been advised that is not currently possible.  This is due to a lack of street-lighting or an electrical power point.

I do not think it is an impossibility to get cameras installed on the road and will seek funding for some street lighting at both ends of Miller Road, via the Parish Council.  Of course, our councillors would have to be willing to support the request, however we are a cash rich council and currently have funds in excess of Parish Council recommendations, which is normally set at 50% of precept.  If local people really want this to happen, I would suggest you email local councillors to support the request.

I know this will be disappointing news considering the image shared by a resident on our community whatsapp, but at least they have removed the three bags I reported and continue to do remove items when requested.  If you see any more fly-tip please continue to report it via the whatsapp group and I will send a steady stream of reports to EPDC, to build a case for camera installation.

In the meanwhile I share the email received from Epping Forest District Council for your perusal.

Dear Mr Chowdhry

I refer to your recent email regarding installation of CCTV along Millers Lane, Chigwell.

I have spoken with the Council's CCTV Operations Officer, who have visited the location and have been informed that in this situation CCTV would not be able to be installed along Millers Lane, Chigwell. This is due to the rural, secluded location of Millers Lane, there is no suitable points to draw power to operate our CCTV equipment. Also, as there is no lighting on Millers Lane, Chigwell it would be hard to receive credible images of a person fly tipping or vehicle registration details during the dark.

To install the CCTV the Council would need access to appropriate power points, infra-red flood lighting and storage for recording equipment. Therefore at this time CCTV is not feasible.

Where possible, Epping Forest District Council investigate all leads that may be found in a fly tip, and try to clear the deposited items in a timely manner.

Please do not hesitate to pass any further fly tipping incidents on to myself. If you have any comments please do not hesitate to contact me using my details below.

Regards
