A report (12th October) on the 'Community Chat' Whatsapp group for Chigwell residents described an alarming amount of fytip that had been left on Woodland Trust land, between the Two Brewers car park and Camelot car park.
The alarming number of reports regarding fly tip is a concern for our community and initiates a lot of community anger. However, the shady nature of this particular act has left the community fuming and exasperated.
The source of local frustration was based on a discovery that a metal padlock that had been in place preventing access to the land, had been cut by the perpetrators to gain illegal access to the Woodland Trust land. Not only had these felons enacted a disgraceful and abhorrent environmental crime but one of trespass by forced entry and criminal damage.
The Woodland Trust cleared the mess up on 13th October at a cost and they must be very concerned that a repeat will occur, despite all their efforts to protect the land.
A local resident made a very good suggestion and one on which I think we all should take note. We as a community must ensure anyone that we hire to do work on our buildings and property is professional and has an appropriate waste-licence before we engage in any contract. Seeking personal tradesmen references through the community whatsapp group is one way to make our area cleaner - as a good experience shared could be one way to curb the current malaise.
In the meanwhile, if anyone recognises the building waste in the image, please report the rogue trader who perpetrated this heinous environmental crime to Essex police.
