What is DaRT?

Demand Responsive Transport (DaRT) is an alternative option enabling access

to key services in rural areas such as Chigwell.

DaRT services differ from bus services in that they are flexible and may divert on and off route to

collect and drop off passengers within the area of operation.

DaRT is not a taxi service, as there must be a enough volume of passengers with similar itineraries

in order to make the intended journeys viable.

Most DaRT services will align with the existing routes and group bookings.

However, the DaRT service only needs three or four passengers to confirm a group booking.

When the service is not operating a timetabled bus route or group booking, vehicles may be available

for individual runs, in circumstances where no alternative transport is available.

The DaRT service will be operational between:

0800 and 1700 Mondays to Fridays.

Unlike a conventional bus service,

Ø  Prior customer registration is essential,

Ø  Seating for journeys must be booked at least 36 hours in advance of travel.

Ø  May be booked up to one months in advance of the intended date of travel.

Ø  If passenger travels regularly they can make a regular booking which lasts for three months,

however if the passenger is unable to travel on a particular day, they must cancel that journey.

Ø  Passengers with a concessionary bus pass maybe used proving they are registered with Epping Forest

  Community Transport.

Please note that Chigwell Row Residents Association is in favour of a free yellow bus service in our Parish.  We understand our Parish Council's decision to conclude the contract with Epping Forest Community Transport only because it was hemorrhaging  our General Reserves (money from council tax).

Our position is that Councillors must return to a free service as soon as the £800,000 S106 agreement money, due via the Planning application for Chigwell Primary Academy, is received from Epping Forest District Council (EFDC). We are also adamant that the Parish Council must fight tooth and nail for those funds to be transferred to the Parish for the purpose of funding our buses.  Failure to do so will be a betrayal by the existing councillors some of whom would prefer the funds to be used by EFDC to be used for increased Social Housing in places like Grange Farm where green belt land could be converted to 50% social housing  as per the EFDC Local Infrastructure Plan.

Please sign our petition to prevent the loss of the free service permanently and usurping of funds for our buses for use of towards social housing that would impact our poorly infrastructured community (click here).

Please also email ian.ansell@eppingforestdc.gov.uk and call for him to expedite the planning approval for Chigwell Primary Academy (EPF/1681/19).
